Hesperidin - Benefits and Side effects of Diosmin HesperidinHesperidins’ is a bioflavonoid, as another bioflavonoid it can be used to improve the health of capillaries and connective tissues. It has been observed that hesperidins’ help in staining varicose veins and fragile capillaries. Hesperidins’ is an important nutrient that works synergistically with vitamin C to maintain the health of collagen. Sagging and wrinkling of skin is one of the harmful effects of breakdown of collagen. The flavonoid hesperidins’ is a flavones glycoside (glucoside) comprising of flavones (a class of flavonoid) hesperidins and disaccharide rutinose. Hesperidins’ is a flavonoid mostly present in sour fruits like lemon and oranges. The peel and membranous part of these fruits have highest concentration of hesperidins. Therefore orange juice containing pulp is richer in hesperidins than those without pulp. Sweet oranges and tangelos are the richest dietary source of hesperidins. Thus hesperidins are also classified as citrus bioflavonoid. The deficiency of this can be linked with various health problems like leaky capillaries, pain in extremities causing stiffness. Hesperidins’ in combination with flavones glycoside are called diosmin which are used in Europe for the treatment of venous insufficiency and hemorrhoids. Hesperidins, rutin and other flavonoids reduce capillary permeability and to have anti inflammatory action collectively forms vitamin P. These substances are no longer referred as vitamins and vitamin P has almost vanished from the vitamin chart. Benefits of hesperidins Flavonoids have positive effect on the body in relation to blood transfer and antioxidants. Hesperidins are primarily used to assist treatment of capillaries and varicose veins, as it strengthens capillaries and heals damage. It can also be used for the treatment of capillary leakage and joint pain as it makes blood flow easily in nervous system. The antioxidant qualities of flavonoid are helpful in reducing the risk of cancer and lengthen life by lessening several age related problems. In some case due to smooth blood flow some side benefits can also be gained such as improvement in vision. Side effects of hesperidins Hesperidins being an herbal supplement may carry certain harmful effects if not used under a health professional. Hesperidins is a derivative of citrus fruit mainly vitamin C found in oranges. Allergic action and malabsorptions are possible in some sensitive individuals. Itching, hives, facial swelling, and rash are example of allergic reaction due to hesperidins.
