Hesperidin (vitamin P2)

One of the bioflavonoid Hesperidin is a natural occurring nutrient which is found in Vitamin C. A flavanone glycoside or glucosie it consists of flavanone hesperitin and disaccharide rutinose. A predominant flavonoid found in oranges and lemons it’s a combination of flavones glycoside and often referred to as diosmin.

Hesperidin combined along with flavones glycoside is known as Diosmin. Diosmin can also be isolated from plant sources or it can also be derived from flavonoid hesperidins. Hesperidin is used to treat hemorrhoids and venous insufficiency.

An important nutrient Hesperidins helps synergistically along with Vitamin C thus maintaining the level of collagen. Rutin, Hesperidin and other flavonoids together help reduce the capillary permeability and assist in taking anti-inflammatory actions which is referred as Vitamin P. Used to help treat menopausal complaints Hesperidins also helps treat other ailments like herpes, flu and a few respiratory problems.

Supplements of hesperidins also helps reduce swelling in the legs which are caused due to the accumulation of fluids in the body. It has the properties to alleviate hay fever and other ailments dues to allergies.

A predominant flavonoid found in oranges and lemons the skin i.e. the peel as well as the membrane parts of these are known to contain the highest concentration of Hesperidins. The richest source of hesperidins can be found in sweet oranges and tangelos. Deficiency of Hesperidins can be due to abnormal capillary leaks and in some cases due to the pain in extremities which leads to weakness and leg cramps especially during night time. There has been no toxic effect due to normal intake of this supplement.

Apart from lemon and oranges Hesperidins is found in green vegetables. It has shown to have anti-oxidant properties along with anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic, hypolipidemic and lowering cholesterol level in the body.

Human body cannot produce bioflavonoid it is supplied in the form of dietary supplements as it helps body fight against malignant and other bodily diseases. Hesperidins is known to provide support to the molecular structure for the absorption of vitamin C and the benefits of hesperidins is more when it is taken along with vitamin C. Hesperidins has shown a low solubility in water as it is a solid substance.

Quercetin is yet another form of bioflavonoid which is highly concentrated and it is also derivative of citrus fruits. The deficiency of quercetin leads problems of the varicose veins, tendency to get easily bruised, bleeding and in some cases there have been appearance of dark bruised spots which turns purplish easily even without hurting oneself.

Hesperidins as you know are one of the most important nutrient and its main function is to work along with Vitamin C synergistically in order to maintain the proper functioning of collagen. It has been found that the juice of orange fruit with the pulp contains the highest concentration of flavonoid. This vitamin or rather Hesperidins comes under the classification of citrus bioflavonoid. Hesperidins in combination with the various bioflavonoids are known to improve the overall health of the connective tissues and the blood capillaries.
